Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent in July, down two-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent.
“Georgia’s labor market continues to stand strong as a beacon of hope and prosperity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With low unemployment and plentiful job opportunities, local communities are thriving and showcasing remarkable resilience in the face of economic uncertainty.”
The labor force decreased in Albany by 555 and ended the month with 64,977. That number went up by 669 when compared to July of 2022.
Albany finished the month with 62,464 employed residents. That number decreased by 359 over-the-month and rose by 769 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Albany ended July with 63,200 jobs. That number decreased by 500 from June to July and rose by 1,400 when compared to this time last year.
In July, initial unemployment claims increased by 27 (9%) in Albany. When you compare July 2023 claims to July 2022, claims were down by 171 (-33%).
