The Dougherty County Commissioners and The Albany Rescue Mission Celebrate Roof Replacement Project
Thursday, August 3rd, 2023
The Dougherty County Board of Commissioners and the Albany Rescue Mission held a roof dedication ceremony at 604 N. Monroe Street, Albany, Georgia. on Monday July 31, 2023, to mark the completion of the project. Instead of the traditional ribbon cutting, Commissioner along with those who worked on the project marked the occasion by hammering nails into shingles.
“Today is an example of the government working for the community, said Dougherty County District 2 Commissioner Victor Edwards,” “This Board has always tried to show special concern for the displaced community and will always extend a helping hand”.
Former Dougherty County Commissioner Muarlean Edwards brought the conditions of the facility to her son’s attention in 2022 and he began the process to start the project. The county replaced three roofs for the dorm/living quarters, the office, including the front porch, and the kitchen. With $65,000 invested, the project included additional cost to add gutters to the dorm/living quarters, and the replacement of rotten roof decking and rotten trim around the roofs.
Edifice Consulting graciously donated all the field work and design work to the county on the project which helped to stretch the County’s funding contribution.
