On May 17, 2023, two Dougherty County Solid Waste Management Team Members placed in the Solid Waste Association of North America Georgia Chap-ter’s Equipment Road-E-O. Melvin Williams placed Third in the Excavator Event and Julius

Barber placed Third in the Rubber Tire Loader Event.

An annual competition where solid waste operators from the state compete to showcase their
skills on the different equipment utilized at landfills, the event this year was held at Knoxville
Plantation in Musella, Georgia and had the largest field of competitors.

“I am impressed with Julius placing in this event, especially since this is only his second year as
an operator and the majority of his competition had many more years of experience operating heavy equipment,” said Campbell Smith, Director of Dougherty County Solid Waste Management. “It was a great event and Dougherty County had a strong showing with both of our opera-
tors placing.”
