Dougherty County to Hold Ribbon Cutting on Roof Replacement of Albany Rescue Mission on Tuesday
Monday, May 22nd, 2023
Dougherty County Board of Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. for the recent roof replacement work the County completed for the Albany Rescue Mission. The ribbon cutting will take place in front of the Albany Rescue Mission, located at 604 N. Monroe Street, Albany, Georgia.
Completed in April of 2023, this project was overseen by Heidi Hailey, Director of Dougherty
County Facilities Management, and Matt Idlett, Building Superintendent with Dougherty County
Facilities Management. Edifice Consulting served as the project engineer on this project, with
Jody Usry as the project manager.
Three roofs were replaced, including dorm/living quarters, the office, including the front porch,
and the kitchen. With nearly $65,000 invested, the project included additional cost to add
gutters to the dorm/living quarters, and the replacement of rotten roof decking and rotten trim
around the roofs.
Challenges presented in this project included asbestos removal, specifically, the shingles on the
dorm/living quarters, relocation of residents for one afternoon and overnight to a local hotel,
extensive unseen wood rot along the trim of the roofs and roof decking, requiring replacement in
several areas due to wood rot and holes, as well as ensuring the Rescue Mission stayed fully
operational for the community Tuesday through Friday.
With Dougherty County’s history of working with Edifice Consulting on roofing and waterproofing
projects since 1992, they provided a 10 percent discount to the county on the project to save
county dollars.
