Dougherty County Commission Chairman Celebrates First 100 Days in Office

Today, Chairman Lorenzo L. Heard, serving as the first Afri- can American Chairman for the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners in Dougherty County’s history, was surprised with a commemorative brochure and video highlighting his first 100 days in office. At the top of his comments in response was enriching and rewarding.

Below is a list of visits, meetings, and more the Chairman has been able to be a part of:

• Onboarding orientation with county department managers and elected officials
• Swearing-In Ceremony for being the first African American Chairman in Dougherty
County history
• Recognition of Dougherty County Schools to include Westover High, Dougherty High,
Deerfield-Windsor, and Sherwood Christian Academy varsity teams’ football and cheer-
leaders
• Groundbreaking for Phoebe Putney’s Trauma and Critical Care Tower
• Participation in the Living and Learning Community 200 million investments
• Attending the annual Georgia Economic Outlook program for community leaders
• Leading the Dougherty County Commission in the first Commission strategic planning
retreat since taking office and developing a number of goals and objectives for the com-
ing year
• Meeting with county department managers
• Meeting with leaders from the Dougherty County Judicial Systems (Judges)
• Visiting the Radium Springs Spring Run Bridge and Radium Springs as a whole
• Approving the roof repair for the Albany Rescue Mission
• Participating in the partnership of the 2023 Southern Equity Tour at ASU’s West Campus
• Touring the Marine Corps Logistics Base and meeting with the Base Commander and
staff
• Touring Albany Technical College
• Touring Albany State University
• Participating with state and business leaders in the annual Economic Development
Commission’s Georgia Quail Hunt
• Participating in the opening ribbon cutting of the DEA Drugs and Circumstances exhibit
• Attending Albany-Dougherty Day at the State Capitol
• Attending the Legislative Black Caucus meeting
• Reopening the County’s onsite wellness clinic with new vendor, CareATC
• Attending Association of County Commissioners in Georgia (ACCG) training
• Meeting with Senator Osoff
• Participating in the ASU Downtown Trail segment Groundbreaking Ceremony
• Participating in the MCA Professional Dinner
• Participating in the COVID-19 three-year anniversary press conference
• Signing a Joint Proclamation for the National Fair Housing Month
• Presenting Proclamation recognizing Development Disability Awareness Month
• Participating in the Georgia Academy for Economic Development “The Essentials” Pro-
gram
• Touring the Dougherty County Jail
• Touring the Dougherty County Landfill
• Touring the County Morgue

At the top of the list was his interaction with Dougherty County staff members and how im- pressed he was with their departments and dedication to the county and its mission. He also re- iterated how much he had enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with all the county depart- ments he had been able to visit thus far.

“I continue to be impressed by our County staff and departments and their level of dedication to the services they provide every day to this community,” said Heard. “I look forward to learning more in the coming months ahead.”
