Dougherty County Board of Commissioners will celebrate Na- tional County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to showcase how the county achieves healthy, safe, and vibrant communities. At today’s County Commission meet- ing, Chairman Lorenzo L. Heard officially kicked off the week with a County Proclamation recog- nizing the month and the celebration of the county.

The theme for this year’s celebration of NCGM is “Counties RISE!,” inspired by the signature fo- cus of National Association of Counties (NACo) President Denise Winfrey. The theme is an ac- ronym for and highlights Resiliency, Inclusion, Solvency, and Empowerment – all county priori- ties undertaken with energy and passion for building stronger counties.

This year, Dougherty County celebrates NCGM with an outreach via social media platforms to engage the community about all the functions of the county, our services, and highlight our di- verse group of employees. County departments will be asked to participate and share highlights throughout the month on various projects and anything they would like to share on what their department does to be highlighted by the County Public Information Officer on these channels and later in the second quarter county newsletter.

“Dougherty County is proud of the programs and services we provide to our residents,” said Board Chairman Lorenzo L. Heard. “Our efforts are building inclusive, resilient, thriving commu- nities and I encourage all residents to participate in National County Government Month to learn about the role our county plays.”
