The bands for Dougherty Comprehensive High School and Westover Comprehensive High School recently brought back trophies and scholarships for their students after finishing at the top in competitions. 

Dougherty’s band placed first for Best Overall Band, Best Danceline and Best Drumline at the Cherokee Battle of the Bands in Columbus. For their efforts the band program received a $500 award and students walked away with $60,000 in scholarship offers from Stillman College. 

The Westover Marching Patriots earned 2nd for the Best Overall Band in the Medium Division Class for the Jackson State University High School Battle of the Bands in Jackson, MS. The band program received a $1,000 check to go towards the band program for participating in the invite-only competition.
