Thronateeska Hosts Book Signing for Local Author Angie Gibson

In an Artesian Alliance event, Thronateeska board member Angie Gibson will be signing her books, Underground Railroad Under My Feet and Shelter in Place Thursday, February 17, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Union Depot at Thronateeska Heritage Center. There is no charge to attend. Guests will have an opportunity to chat with the author and learn more about her research. Light refreshments will be provided.

Angela Cain Harris Gibson retired from the Dougherty County School System after a 21-year teaching career. In her retirement years she is an independent contractor for historical research writing projects in Southwest Georgia and other areas that impact community knowledge and awareness of civic importance, human/historical contributions and sacrifices, and community resources. She is also an instructor for adult English language learners.

Angela is active in the community and is a member of the Albany Civil Rights Museum, a board member on the Georgia African American Preservation Network (GAAHPN) for the SW Region of Georgia, board member on the Thronateeska Heritage Center, and serves as a Commissioner on the Historical Preservation Commission (HPC). She is a singer with the Albany Civil Rights Museum Freedom Singers and serves as the historian/researcher and spokesperson/storyteller for the group. During her doctoral studies she received certification in human research. 

Angela is a native of Albany, Georgia, by way of Detroit, Michigan. Angela's hobbies include writing, reading, historical research, arts and crafts. She is a member of Mt. Zion Church where she serves on the Performing Arts Ministry. She has one daughter, Keila, and two grandchildren, Kiersten, 15, and Brycen, 9. Underground Railroad Under My Feet and Shelter in Place are her first published books.     

Thronateeska Heritage Center is open Thursday-Saturday from 10 am-4 pm. There is no charge for admission.
