United Way of Southwest Georgia Announces Stuff the Bus
Wednesday, July 7th, 2021
The United Way of Southwest Georgia announces its inaugural “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive in partnership with WALB and local Family Connections in Dougherty, Lee, Sumter, Terrell and Worth. Businesses and organizations in these communities will host collection drives from July 6 – 19, 2021.
Stuff the Bus helps youth start school with essential supplies. When a student walks into the classroom with the basic supplies they need, they can focus on what really matters – learning. This program will not only benefit many of the children living in poverty in our region, but also provides assistance to working families that may be financially insecure.
“We are very excited to partner with local Family Connections in the surrounding counties to ensure all students are equipped with the tools they need to begin the school year, “said Elyse. Bower, Resource Development Director for United Way of Southwest Georgia. “We know the pandemic took a tole on a lot of families, especially financially. This is just one small way we can help ease the financial burden and give students a boost of confidence in the classroom.”
On July 20, 2021, each participating county will host an “all call” day in their communities to drop off supplies and literally stuff the bus. The drop off locations will be:
-
Dougherty County: WALB, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
-
Lee County: Modern Gas, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
-
Sumter County: Sumter County Middle School, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
-
Terrell County: Roses parking lot, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
-
Worth County: Piggly Wiggly parking lot, 7:30 am – 5:30 pm
United Way has also created an Amazon wish list for those who wish to donate school supplies but are unable to do so through one of the collection sites. Monetary donations can also be made online at www.unitedwayswga.org. All supplies and donations will remain in the county they are received.
