Santiago Borda, a May 2020 graduate of Westover Comprehensive High School, is believed to be the first-ever student in the Dougherty County School System to earn the Georgia Department of Education’s Biliteracy Seal.

According to the GaDOE’s website, the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy was established to recognize high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in a language in addition to English.  To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, a high school graduate must complete all English/Language Arts requirements for graduation with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and must earn proficiency in a foreign language advanced placement exam by earning a score of 4 or higher.  Once these requirements are met, a local school system may award the seal to qualifying students.

Recent AP test scores from the May administration of the exam confirmed that Borda had earned a 4 on the Spanish AP Exam, earning him the seal.  The Georgia Seal of Biliteracy was created in 2016.

Borda plans on pursuing his degree in Meteorology from Georgia State University.
