In March Thomas University moved all of its on-campus classes to an online format for the rest of spring semester in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, most of the students in its residence halls moved back to their homes.
 
Now TU is offering these empty rooms to any first responder who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and needs to self-isolate himself or herself away from family and friends for 14 days at no cost.
 
“Our rooms are just a crash pad to make sure that our first responders don’t accidentally take the virus back to the fire house, to the office or home to their families,” said Dr. Andy Sheppard, TU President. “It’s the least we can do to support those who are working to protect us.”
 
Before students return to the residence halls, all rooms will be cleaned and sanitized by a professional contractor.
 
To make the offer official, TU signed a memorandum of understanding with the Thomas County Emergency Management Agency. First responders who need to use a TU room should contact the Thomas County EMA.
