Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, April 9th, 2020

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce announces the endorsement of incumbent Supreme Court Justices Charlie Bethel and Sarah Warren as they defend their seats on the state’s highest court.   Each election cycle, the Chamber’s Political Affairs Council vets dozens of candidates for office.  After working through the endorsement process, business leaders from across the state are confident in Justices Bethel and Warren’s leadership and judicial temperament essential to a fair process for the Georgia business community.

“These incumbents have a strong record and understand the importance of taking an impartial approach to interpreting laws that have far reaching implications for our member businesses as a whole,” said Chris Clark, Georgia Chamber President and CEO. “These endorsements reflect our organization’s record of supporting incumbents who have effectively served our state and we are pleased to stand with them in this election year.”

Justice Charlie Bethel shared, “I appreciate the endorsement and support of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Part of my life story is my association with our family business. I think my connection to the challenges of the people who sign both the front and the back of paychecks gives me good insight into the daily struggles real Georgians face. I am committed to being a part of a court and a judiciary that follows the rule of law and in doing so provides stability and predictability for citizens and businesses alike.”

Justice Warren added, “I’m grateful for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s endorsement and its recognition that I am a judge who is committed to serving fairly and impartially, following the rule of law and honoring the separation of powers.  Having grown up in Georgia, it is especially meaningful to have this important Georgia organization offer its support as I work to earn a full six-year term on the Court.”

At the time of this release, the two nonpartisan races will be decided on May 19, 2020, which may be subject to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Georgia Chamber is a nonpartisan organization that is dedicated to working with elected officials to ensure a future of economic growth for Georgia businesses, workers, and families.
