Dougherty County Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Radium Springs Road Resurfacing Project Thursday

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Dougherty County will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 10 a.m. to commemorate the road resurfacing project recently completed in the Radium Springs neighborhood. The ceremony will be held at the parking lot that has been constructed at the very end of Azalea Drive in Radium Springs.

Last year, Dougherty County received a $500,000 grant from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure
Bank (GTIB) to help in funding the reconstruction of Skywater and Azalea Boulevard, as well as part of Camella Road. Additional funding needed beyond the grant was derived from SPLOST V funds and work was completed by Oxford Construction.

“SRTA is excited to see the completion of the Rebuilding Radium Springs project, which is a critical step in Dougherty County’s disaster recovery,” Chris Tomlinson, SRTA Executive Director, said. “We are proud to partner with Dougherty County and provide an important funding source that was used to not only rebuild the infrastructure, but provide additional features that meet community needs even better than before.”

The resurfacing project was earmarked to improve safety, reduce wear and tear caused by potholes, as well as repair damaged and eroded portions of the roadway. The project reconstructed the existing, storm-damaged roadway with a 31-foot-wide curb and gutter road for approximately one mile through a residential area. It covered approximately 6,000 feet of roadway, which included Azalea and Skywater Blvd. A complete street, including bike lanes and sidewalks, were also built as part of the project.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank on this project,” said Christopher S. Cohilas, Chair of the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners. “This grant has allowed us to renovate road damage from the storms and with the addition of bike lanes and sidewalks to the community, it will greatly enhance the quality of life for residents in the Radium Springs area.”
