Monday, December 16th, 2019
Dougherty County has appointed a new Director of Solid Waste Management. Campbell Smith officially joined the Dougherty County team on Monday, December 9, 2019.
A native of Albany and Dougherty County, Smith comes to Dougherty County from Beverage South of Albany, where he worked as the Delivery Operations Manager/Customer Service Manager. In this role, he managed the delivery department, which included personnel, equipment, route, Department of Transportation compliance, and several other duties. He managed a department of 35 drivers, 12 tractor trailers, two Commercial Truck Driver side loaders, 14 box trucks and six vans.
Prior to his position with Beverage South of Albany, Smith was the owner of Biosstat Medical Waste Services of Albany. The company was responsible for picking up biomedical waste from doctor’s offices in the area and transporting them to treatment facilities. Smith handled all aspects of the company, including marketing, sales, transport, and warehouse management.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Dougherty County Solid Waste/Landfill department,” said Smith.
“Solid Waste is a universal issue that matters to every resident of Dougherty County and in my new role, I will strive for continued excellence in practices and procedures to ensure that the Dougherty County Landfill will remain a valuable resource to the residents of Dougherty County.”
“I would like to welcome Mr. Smith to Dougherty County as the new Solid Waste Director,” said Scott Addison, Assistant County Administrator. “Mr. Smith brings solid management experience, coupled with a waste hauling background, that will help him lead the department moving forward and I’m excited for him to join the Dougherty County team.”
Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology/History from the University of Mississippi. He replaces Scott Addison, who vacated the position earlier this year to accept a promotion to the Assistant County Administrator for Dougherty County.
