Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) signed two new articulation agreements with Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) recently on the College’s Warner Robins campus. The agreements lay out pathways for transfer of credit from CGTC’s new General Studies associate degree into multiple four-year programs at Georgia Southwestern, including a designated pathway for transfer into GSW’s Long-Term Care Management program.
 
Articulation agreements allow students to benefit from the seamless transfer of credit earned at one institution into programs at another, often reducing cost and encouraging further pursuit of higher education, personal growth, and career advancement.
 
“We are excited to add Georgia Southwestern to our growing list of transfer partners,” said Dr. Amy Holloway, CGTC’s vice president of Academic Affairs. “These agreements benefit students, our institutions, and our community by providing affordable and accessible pathways for our graduates who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree at GSW. Graduates of CGTC’s General Studies AS can seamlessly transfer into multiple baccalaureate programs, and those interested in a career in long-term care can transition from a CGTC associate’s degree into a bachelor’s degree without relocating or duplicating credits. We appreciate the vision of President Neil Weaver and the hard work of GSW’s administration, faculty, and staff who made this opportunity possible.”
 
Dr. Neal Weaver, president of GSW, and Dr. Ivan H. Allen, president of CGTC, signed the agreements, touting their expectation that each agreement will be of economic benefit to future students.
 
The second agreement provides a unique option for healthcare students, and as each president highlighted during the signing, the healthcare industry is in high-demand for professionals.  
 
The agreement will assure transfer of credit from CGTC into GSW’s Bachelor of Science in Long-Term Care Management, a first-of-its-kind in the nation, fully online program that prepares graduates to assist patients and families who are caring for older relatives or disabled adults.
 
“The new articulation agreement with Central Georgia Technical College will provide a new healthcare career pathway for CGTC students who will, after degree completion, be critical and essential employees for Georgia’s healthcare workforce,” said, Dr. Leisa Easom, associate dean for Health Sciences at GSW. “We are excited about the promising outcomes for these students and the future health of Georgians.”
 
Beginning fall semester 2019, CGTC will offer its newest associate degree in General Studies. Students who complete the General Studies program and meet GSW admissions requirements can apply to eligible bachelor’s degree programs.
