High school students in the 2^nd Congressional District of Georgia have until April 10 to submit artwork for 37th Annual Congressional Art Competition.

"I am excited to announce that my office is now accepting entries for this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., D-Albany. “This competition is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the considerable artistic talent of Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District’s high school students, and I am eager to see this year’s entries!"

On April 18, the Albany Museum of Art will host a reception for the student artists from 5-7 pm. All submitted artwork will be on display April 16-19 in the Willson Auditorium. The winner will be announced at the reception. Congressman Bishop represents the 2^nd Congressional District of Georgia, which includes Metro Albany and most of Southwest Georgia.

“We are always pleased to host this exhibition and the reception announcing the winner,” AMA Executive Director Paula Williams said. “These young artists do fantastic work, and it’s to the lawmakers’ credit that by hosting this competition each year they not only foster a new generation of budding artists, they demonstrate an understanding of the importance of art in building a stronger community and nation.”

The winning artist’s work, along with the winning artwork from the other participating U.S. congressional districts, will be on display for a year in the Cannon Tunnel, a heavily traveled underground walkway that connects the House office buildings with the U.S. Capitol.

The winning artist and a parent will be provided roundtrip airfare to the nation’s capital this summer to join Congressman Bishop at the national reception for the district winners.

The Albany Museum of Art, in addition to hosting the district reception and the weeklong district exhibition, will make a $250 purchase offer for the winning artwork. The AMA also will provide two-night accommodations at a Washington area hotel for the winning student and parent,

All artwork must be submitted to Congressman Bishop’s Office at 323 Pine Avenue, Suite 400 in Albany by April 10, 2019.
