SBA Gives New Deadlines for Disaster Loan Applications

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, December 3rd, 2018

The deadline for Hurricane Michael-related disaster loan applications from the U.S. Small Business Administration is Dec. 13, the agency announced.

For eligible private nonprofits, the loan covers physical damages caused by Hurricane Michael. These organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.

Nonprofits that don’t provide essential governmental services may be eligible to apply for low interest rate disaster loans. Examples of these organizations include, but are not limited to, food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums, libraries, community centers, schools and colleges.

The SBA also offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs, such as ongoing operating expenses. A private nonprofit doesn’t have to have suffered any physical property damage to obtain economic injury loan assistance. The deadline for economic injury applications is Aug. 2, 2019.

The interest rate for a loan is 2.5 percent with terms up to 30 years. Applicants may be eligible for a loan amount increase of up to 20 percent of their physical damages, as verified by the SBA for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements may include a safe room or storm shelter to help protect property and occupants from future damage caused by a similar disaster.

Private nonprofits located in these Georgia counties are eligible to apply: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baker, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bleckley, Brooks, Bulloch, Burke, Calhoun, Candler, Chattahoochee, Clay, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dodge, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Echols, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Grady, Houston, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Jones, Laurens, Lee, Macon, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Screven, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Turner, Twiggs, Washington, Webster, Wheeler, Wilcox, Wilkinson and Worth Counties.
