MCLB Albany Hosts International Evening under the Stars

Several active-duty military families held the second annual International Evening under the Stars at Lincoln Military Housing on the base, August 25. The popular event not only unites the community, but also shows appreciation for the melting pot of cultures aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.
“It’s just a fun way to get out and meet your neighbor,” Sgt. Maj. Johnny Higdon, base sergeant major, MCLB Albany said.
Families who live in the complex got a chance to transform their street, or in this case, their tent to the country of their choice: U.S, Brazil, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Greece, Spain, Africa, Mexico, Caribbean and South Korea. Each tent was judged on creativity, originality and the cuisine.
Master Sgt. Diedra Harris, and organizer of team Mexico’s tent, had everything from tacos to piñatas, in hopes the kids walked away with more insight on the Hispanic culture.
“If they have a chance to visit another country, they’ll somewhat know what to expect. Or even if they read about it in school, they’ll be familiar (because of) what they experienced here on base” Harris explained.
This year’s winners of the event were team Japan, and team Mexico came in second.
