AARP Georgia announced the hiring of Jil Hinds as the Associate State Director, Community Outreach. In this role, Jil will be responsible for invigorating the nonprofit agency’s efforts relating to veterans, multi-cultural audiences, and financial resilience.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Jil to the Georgia team,” said Georgia State Director Debra Tyler-Horton. “She brings a wealth of experience and direct understanding of the needs of our veterans, which will be her primary, boots-to-the-ground focus.” Jil served in the Army National Guard from 1986-1990 as a combat medic.

Most recently, Jil served as the Director of Veteran Services for the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes. In this role, she advocated for veterans issues by working closely with local and national officials.
In March of this year, Jil’s efforts led to the passage of Georgia House Bill 718, which provides children of veterans five excused absences from school to attend therapeutic retreats and counseling sessions with their parents.

Other accolades for Jil include her recognition by the DeKalb County Veterans Affairs Advisory Board and the Georgia State Senate for her distinguished service to veterans. She also has contributed to articles on veteran issues in Woman’s World and Parade magazine.

Jil is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Phi Pi Omega Chapter. She is married, with two children, to an Army veteran. Jil earned her bachelor’s degree in radio, TV and film from California State University Northridge. She later graduated from American Intercontinental University Los Angeles with her master’s degree in business administration.
