ASU Announces Changes to Division of Academic Affairs

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Thursday, July 19th, 2018

ASU Interim President Marion Fedrick met with ASU faculty and academic administrators.  The discussion centered around several changes that will take place this fall.

Effective August 1, 2018, ASU’s academic college structure will be restructured from five academic colleges to three academic colleges. The new structure will include the Darton College of Health Professions; the College of Professional Studies (which will include the College of Business and College of Education); and the College of Arts and Sciences (which will include the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Sciences and Technology). There will also be additional academic departments that will transfer to the College of Professional Studies.

ASU faculty will assist Fedrick and Interim Provost Raj Parikh in selecting interim deans to lead these academic colleges. The university will immediately launch national searches for three permanent deans with the anticipated appointment date of  January 1, 2019.  A search committee comprised of administrators, faculty, staff and students will be appointed to identify candidates. Parikh will lead the search committee for the selection of the new deans.

“These changes are necessary and vital to the instruction of our students, operational efficiency and structural effectiveness," Fedrick said.  "Overall, these changes will streamline academic administration, provide for program synergies and strengthen the foundation of collaboration between our colleges."
