The National Education Association’s Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2.

Read Across America provides parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading on the calendar 365 days a year. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy students, who are also enrolled in the Teaching as a Profession Pathway helped to bring reading excitement to children of all ages at Turner Elementary School. TAAP students engaged in conversations with younger students, sparking interest, reading, and seeking responses about the stories as they were read. This activity gave aspiring educators in the 10th and 11th grades the opportunity to practice with what it might be like to have a classroom full of their own students one day.

Dr. Keyla Johnson is the instructor for Teaching as a Profession under the guidance of Ms. Angie Gardner (Principal) and Mr. Chris Hatcher (CEO).
