Monday, December 18th, 2017

Elaine Mabrey, a speech therapist with the Dougherty County School System's Exceptional Students Program, was honored by the board of Education Monday night for what Superintendent Kenneth Dyer said were her "heroic" actions helping to save the life of a man in need.

Mabrey, along with Mr. Delvin Hawkins, Mr. Marlon Baker, Mr. Kevin Holmes and Mr. Terron Hayes, began chest compressions and CPR on Rickey Alexander who, while attending a funeral, slumped over and became unresponsive. The actions of the five, along with the use of Automatic External Defribulator that had been kept at the church, are credited with saving Mr. Alexander's life.

The five were honored by the Eta Omicron Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi, Inc., Fraternity.  The five were given a plaque and a monetary award for their actions.
