On October 23rd - 24th Westover High School Culinary Arts instructor Robert Schley presented at the annual Georgia Department of Education STEM Forum in Athens, GA.

The event, attended by nearly 1500 educators, featured how STEM is implemented in K-12 classrooms across the state. This year marked the first time that Career, Technical and Agricultural Education teachers were invited to present on how their classrooms impact the GA DOE STEM Initiative.

Chef Schley’s presentation simulated the research and methodology of a collaborative project with his advanced Culinary Arts students and WHS AP Biology students. The microbiological food science experiment entitled “The Lethality of Bacteria in Sous Vide Cooked Chicken” gave both classes practical hands-on lab experience and an introduction to careers in Food Science.
