Boating Industry Expands in Sumter County: Job Fair October 10th

Lexington Pontoons has relocated from Leland, North Carolina and will now be produced in the J. Frank Myers Industrial Park in Americus, Georgia.  Lexington Pontoons are over-engineered, luxurious, quality built pontoons with excellent performance.  “The Lexington Pontoon line features boats from 15’ to 27’ in various layouts and amenities boasting standard features competitors often sell as options; a luxury brand to be proudly assembled in Americus.  Building the Lexington Pontoon line in Americus was driven with the rich marine manufacturing history of Americus,” shared Sam Wallace, Executive Assistance of Recreation Unlimited.  According to Ms. Wallace, “the immediate response from South Georgia Technical College and the Sumter County Development Authority was the perfect example of community leaders working to grow industry and jobs in Sumter County.”
 
“Home to the Caravelle Powerboat, Razor, Interceptor and Key Largo boat lines, the addition of the Lexington Pontoon will expand operations and provide additional jobs for Sumter County.  One behalf of the Sumter County Development Authority, we are proud to partner with Lexington Pontoons to support their expansion, and look forward to a prosperous future for the company,” said Barbara Grogan, Executive Director of the Development Authority.
 
Lexington Pontoons, in partnership with South Georgia Technical College, will host a job fair on Tuesday, October 10th, beginning at 2:00 PM.  “South Georgia Tech’s mission is to connect industry with a trained, qualified workforce,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “We are glad to partner with Lexington Pontoons in this exciting new venture and recognize that there will be a wide array of workforce opportunities associated with the new Lexington line.”
 
South Georgia Technical College Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers and SGTC Director of Business and Industry Services Paul Farr will be assisting in recruitment efforts to help fill the over 80 new job positions.  They will be working with recent graduates and others in the community to find trained, qualified employees for facilities maintenance, marine assembler technician, marine laminator, upholstery manager, upholstery technician, and welding,
