Hurricane Irma Brings New Storm Debris Challenges to Dougherty County

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

Although debris removal from the January storms has ended, it was decided during the September 18 Board of Commissioners meeting that waste and debris from Tropical Storm Irma would be removed in the unincorporated areas of Dougherty County. The deadline for the yard debris removal is Friday, September 29, 2017 .

Under normal circumstances, debris removal service is not provided in the unincorporated area, and is not a service funded by citizen taxes in that area. However, upon board consensus, collection service will be temporarily provided. Residents are strongly encouraged to follow the guidelines below:

● Deliver storm-related waste to the Dougherty County Landfill at 900 Gaissert Rd .

● Place storm-related debris on the right of way by no later than September 29, 2017 .

● Dispose of storm-related debris in any other legal manner.
