Rams Will Hold Their First Football Practice of the Season Today

Preparations for the 2017 Golden Rams football season began Wednesday as the football student-athletes arrived and moved on campus. The Rams reported to campus with their first practice slated for 3:00 p.m. Friday at the football practice field.

Friday’s session will mark the start of preseason camp that extends to the weekend prior to the 2017-2018 academic year. Albany State will kick off the season against Valdosta at 7 p.m., Sept. 2 at the Albany State Coliseum.

"Our staff is excited to get our student-athletes back to campus to get acclimated for preseason camp," said head coach Gabe Giardina. "It is an exciting day for everyone involved, and we are ready to open up camp with a great practice tomorrow evening."

The Golden Rams placed three student-athletes on the 2017 Preseason SIAC Team, including offensive lineman, Tedrick Cofield, linebacker, Zavondric Shingleton and safety, Nick Scott. ASU was picked first in the division after going 5-4 a season ago.
