Exceptional service, financial leadership and community involvement are among the factors that helped Navy Federal earn its 11th consecutive “Credit Union of the Year” award from the United States Navy.

Navy Federal’s branch aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia was named the Department of the Navy’s Distinguished Credit Union of the Year on Tuesday during the Defense Credit Union Council’s Annual Conference in San Diego.

“We are humbled and honored by this recognition,” said Donya Housinger, branch manager. “We are proud of how we’ve been able to help serve the base and community throughout 2016 and this award is a reflection of the partnership we have with our committed and talented members.”

Marine Corps Col. James C. Carroll, III, Commanding Officer of MCLB Albany, nominated the branch for the prestigious award. In his nomination package, Col. Carroll highlighted the extent to which branch staff went to help provide financial education to those serving at the base.

Col. Carroll also highlighted the MCLB Albany branch for the following efforts:

- Quickly reopening following severe weather which impacted the community

- Offering emergency relief loans to those impacted by the severe weather

- Volunteering in the community during the disaster cleanup process

- Working extra hours to accommodate Marines temporarily relocated from South Carolina

“There is a special relationship between our Navy Federal team and those serving aboard MCLB Albany,” Housinger said, “and our entire staff are honored by this recognition, and it motivates us to continue our service excellence.”
