4C Academy Launches Guest Speaker Series
Monday, August 14th, 2017
The Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy (4C Academy) launched their Guest Speaker Series this week.
The series will feature industry, business and community leaders who will speak to students on various topics related to workforce development, professional skills and tips for navigating the workplace.
Kicking off the series on Friday was Col. James C. Carroll, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. Carroll, who oversees all facets of base operations, spoke to the students about the importance of developing a strong work ethic. Carroll also answered questions from the students and provided insights on military life, post-secondary options and the importance of continuous improvement.
In the afternoon session, Dougherty County School System Human Resources Director Jill Addison spoke to students about workplace decorum, rules and the importance of perseverance in workplace environments. The former teacher and assistant principal also underscored the importance of "soft skills" -- teamwork, communication, drive, confidence, etc. -- for a successful future in a professional setting.
Throughout the semester, students will get to meet business, community and industry leaders to learn about various career pathways and get information that school officials believe will better prepare students to be successful in a competitive job market.
