Albany Technical College Healthcare Technology to Hold Spring Capping & Pinning Wednesday

Albany Technical College’s Healthcare Technology division will hold the spring 2017 Capping and
Pinning ceremony on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, beginning at 12Noon, in the Kirkland Conference Center.
Almost 30 students will be capped and pinned in the following programs: Practical Nursing, Pharmacy Technology, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and Paramedicine.
Keynote speaker will be Betsy Powell, Director of Nursing for Albany Area Primary Healthcare.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Powell elected to pursue her nursing education at Georgia Southwestern State University, graduating in 1981 with an associate’s degree in Nursing and later in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Upon graduation, she obtained a staff nurse position with Phoebe Health Systems, where she remained for 31 years.
During her nursing career in the acute care setting, Powell primarily worked in the areas of medical and surgical nursing, emergency center, renal dialysis, radiation oncology, and hospice, holding past certificates in both oncology and hospice nursing. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Association.
Powell has been employed with Albany Area Primary Healthcare since 2015. Albany Tech partners with AAPHC to serve as a clinical site for both the Certified Medical Assistant program, as well as the Licensed Practical Nursing program. The partnership serves to strengthen the healthcare system in Southwest Georgia by offering a learning environment for Albany Tech students.
