The Albany Technical College Move On When Ready program will hold an informational session for eighth grade students and their parents on Tuesday evening, February 28, 2017, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center.

The purpose of the session will be to encourage parents of eighth graders to begin considering the Move On When Ready program early and prior to students start to their high school years.

The program was passed into legislation in Georgia in 2009 as a dual enrollment opportunity for students to attend a postsecondary institution. Participating students receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously while attending college classes on the college campus, full-time.

The informational session Tuesday evening will be kicked off by a welcome and presentation by Albany Tech President, Dr. Anthony Parker, followed by a presentation on the Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy by Dr. Tanjula Petty, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Albany Tech, and Chris Hatcher, CEO, CCCCA Academy.

A presentation entitled “The MOWR Experience” will be given by MOWR students Jamekia Collins, Monroe Comprehensive High School, Nilkumar Patel, Terrell County High School, and parent of a MOWR student, Sara Rowan. Dr. David Mosely will also present on behalf of the Dougherty County School System. Admissions and enrollment information will be presented by Cassandra Oliver, MOWR High School Coordinator at Albany Tech. Michelle Lilly-Williams, Director of Albany Tech’s Engineering Preparatory Academy, will present on the offerings provided by Albany Tech’s EPA.

Currently, Albany Tech’s enrollment for MOWR is 390 students. President Parker says he anticipates
the program to grow to at least 500 students in the fall.
