Storm Cleanup Continues in Albany and Dougherty County

Progress continues to be made with storm relief efforts throughout the City of Albany and Dougherty County.

Updates on progress are as follows:

Power Restoration

  • Utility department is continuing to restore power to individual structures that have been inspected and approved for power restoration.

  • Utility crews are cleaning up electrical debris around the affected areas.

  • Utility crews are working on repairing street lights.

Debris

  • 24 debris crews on the ground clearing streets.

  • As of this Tuesday morning, 130,000 cubic yards of debris has been collected.

  • Do not mix construction debris or household garbage with storm debris.

  • There are tree crews removing “leaners” (trees) and “hangers” (limbs) that are endangering right-a-way for public safety.

Public Safety

  • Law enforcement Officers are working overnight to patrol the affected areas.

  • Light trees have been placed to assist in overnight security

Traffic/Roads

  • All traffic signals are now operational.

  • There are no road closures.

Social Services

  • Raleigh White Baptist/ New Seasons Church at 2804 Phillips Rd. will continue to provide evening meals for the community at 6 pm every Wednesday.

  • Greater Cutliff Grove (841 W. Broad Ave) will continue to provide meals and distribution of disaster relief items (toiletries, blankets, etc.) daily.

  • If anyone feels they may have been the victim of a scam or price gouging, please contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit at 404-651-8600 within the metro Atlanta area or at 1-800-869-1123 toll-free outside of the metro Atlanta calling area. In addition, you can find more resources at the Consumer Protection Unit’s website at www.consumer.ga.gov.

  • Representatives from the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner of Georgia will host a 'Catastrophe Claims Village' in Albany, in the Home Depot parking lot, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
