Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, November 14th, 2016

Albany Technical College’s Special Populations Program will hold a Community “Sip and Chat” event on Monday, November 14, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center. The purpose of the event is to provide a forum to showcase program highlights, student success stories, community relations, and connections for the Albany Tech Student Affairs programs within the community.

Dr. Sherry Aaker, Vice President for Student Affairs at Albany Tech, will introduce Special Populations initiatives for the upcoming year, which includes the opportunity to learn how Albany Tech can work better for our community for student success and ways to expand Albany Tech services for eligible families and individuals. A forum will also be held to promote and utilize services within community partnerships and ways on how Albany Tech can move forward to make student lives better.

The Special Populations program at Albany Tech is designed to assist students with support services, resource
referrals, customized workshops and life skills. The program provides effective guidance to assist students in
overcoming barriers to stay in school and achieve career goals. Most of the members within Special Populations
include displaced homemakers, single parents, non-traditional students, academically and economically disadvantaged students.
