ASU, DSC Search Committees to Identify Top Candidates for Dean Positions

Tau Kadhi, Albany State University provost and vice president for academic affairs, has appointed committees to conduct national searches to fill dean leadership positions for four of the five colleges that will comprise the new Albany State University academic unit.

Thomas Thompson, Albany State University interim dean of the College of Education, will chair the College of Arts and Humanities committee, which includes the following members:

· Veronica Adams Cooper, Albany State University associate professor of public administration;

· Marcia Hood, Albany State University associate professor of music and fine arts department chair;

· Jeff Kluball, Darton State College professor of music and fine arts department chair;

· Maya Palmer, Albany State University Student Government Association president, psychology major;

· Gloria Ridgeway, Darton State College assistant dean for student success and career services director;

· Sharon Sewell, Darton State College associate professor of history;

· Corrine Sweet, Darton State College associate professor of business and business and social sciences chair; and

· Timothy Sweet-Holp, Albany State University associate professor of political science.

The College of Arts and Humanities is the largest of the university’s five colleges with more than 14 programs, 71 faculty and 2,630 students. Departments in the college include Criminal Justice, English, Modern Languages and Mass Communication, Fine Arts, History and Political Science, Public Administration, and Social Work.

Wendy Kennedy, Darton State College interim dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, will chair the College of Education committee, which includes the following members:

· Laura Blackwell, Darton State College assistant professor of physical education;

· Erica Decuir, Albany State University assistant professor of teaching and learning;

· Elizabeth Delancy, Darton State College assistant professor of dance;

· Takeebie Jefferson, Albany State University director of online learning and technical support;

· Michael Mallard, Darton State College associate professor of art;

· Dorene Medlin, Albany State University assistant professor of science education;

· Carolyn Rollins, Albany State University associate professor of counseling; and

· Zaria Thomas, Albany State University Student Government Association vice president for academic affairs, biology major.

The College of Education will offer the highest degree the university awards, the education specialist. With more than eight programs, 16 faculty, and 384 students, the college will offer programs in teacher education, school counseling, and educational leadership.

Renita Luck, Darton State College director of online education, will chair the College of Sciences and Technologycommittee, which includes the following members:

· Richard Foreman, Darton State College associate professor of science;

· Li Feng, Albany State University professor of mathematics;

· Keyonna Gladden, Albany State University SGA vice president of student affairs, healthcare management major

· Lauren Mueller, Darton State College assistant professor of biology and science department chair;

· Jeff Swords, Darton State College associate professor of mathematics and mathematics and computing department chair;

· Oluseyi Vanderpuye, Albany State University professor of chemistry;

· Brandon Walker, Albany State University research instrument specialist; and

· Louise Wrensford, Albany State University professor of chemistry and associate provost for research & sponsored programs/graduate studies dean.

The College of Sciences and Technology will offer degrees in forensic science, the only Georgia college or university forensic science degree program accredited by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. With more than eight programs, 34 faculty and 470 students, the college also offers degrees in the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science.

Cynthia Evers, Albany State University and Darton State College interim vice president for student affairs, will chair the Darton College of Health Professions committee, which includes the following members:

· Linda Amankwaa, Albany State University associate professor of nursing;

· Andre Armour, Albany State University Student Government Association vice president, supply chain and logistics management major;

· Tonya Curles, Darton State College occupational therapy assistant fieldwork coordinator;

· Larecia Gill, Darton State College associate professor of nursing and nursing department chair;

· Deanna Howe, Darton State College associate professor of nursing;

· David Mann, Darton State College associate professor of physical education and physical education department chair;

· Jan Rodd, Albany State University assistant professor of nursing; and

· Aram Yoon, Albany State University assistant professor in Health and Human Performance.

The Darton College of Health Professions was named Albany State University’s fifth college in June 2016. The college will comprise of three departments: Health Sciences, Nursing, and Health and Human Performance.
