A partnership between the Dougherty County School System and the state will provide $50,000 in college scholarships annually to students within the system.

REACH Albany, which is an affiliate of REACH Georgia, is a partnership between the DCSS and the state through the Georgia Student Finance Commission that will provide 5 scholarships annually to students. The program is different from traditional scholarship programs in that a committee of business and community leaders, along with DCSS officials, identify and interview candidates who are 8th grade students.

If selected, the students are paired with mentors who meet with them weekly and monitor their progress through their high school years.

While needs-based, the focus of the program is on students who are first-generation college students and who may show promise academically.
