The Deep Dixie Horse Club invites residents of Dougherty and surrounding counties to Potter Community Center on Saturday, October 1st for an open horse show in honor of the late USMC lieutenant colonel Steve Reynolds. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.

A veteran of more than twenty years, Reynolds was serving at the Marine Corps logistics base in Albany prior to his unexpected passing earlier this year. Reynolds was also the President of the Deep Dixie Pleasure Horse Club, which is a member of the Georgia Federation of Saddle Clubs. To honor is commitment to our country as well as his love of horses, the Deep Dixie Club has chosen to host a charity horse show to benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.

Since 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society has provided need-based financial assistance and education to active duty and retired members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps, their eligible family members and survivors. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, the Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that is staffed by more than 4,000 volunteers, and a small cadre of employees, in offices around the world – ashore and aboard U.S. Navy ships. A local office is located at Bldg. 3500 Radford Boulevard in Albany.

The open horse show will be held Saturday, October 1st at Potter’s Community Center located at 2621 Wildfair Road in Albany beginning at 9:30. Classes to be held include halter, ranch horse, pleasure classes and gaited classes. Riders have the opportunity to win cash and prizes.  The event is open to the public; spectators are welcome. Sponsorships are available and additional information can be found on the Deep Dixie website at www.deepdixiepleasurehorse.com.
