ASU President Names Interim VP for Student Affairs

Albany State University President Art Dunning has appointed Cynthia Evers as interim vice president of student affairs.
Evers has more than 15 years of experience in higher education as a senior administrator. Her expertise includes student affairs, academic affairs, student retention, enrollment management and teaching.
In her most current role, she was vice president for student affairs at Atlanta Metropolitan College where her portfolio included student outreach and access, judicial affairs and Title IX compliance, enrollment services, counseling and disability services, financial aid, student activities, military outreach and several special initiatives like Upward Bound, SSS-STEM and Talent Search.
Her career also has included employment at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky., and the Central Texas College campus in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
“Dr. Evers has the skillset we need in student affairs at Albany State University and Darton State College,” Dunning said. “During this interim period, she will work with the interim provost and vice president for academic affairs and others to ensure that the needs of our students are being met and help restructure the division to function more effectively and efficiently.”
The functions in Evers’ portfolio include student affairs programs at Albany State University and Darton State College.
Evers earned a doctoral degree in higher education administration and master’s degree in education and human development from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She earned an undergraduate degree in English education from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.
The appointment of Evers, which was effective Sept. 2, comes after the departure of Danette Saylor on Sept. 1.
