Two Deerfield-Windsor Students Recognized as National AP Scholars
Monday, August 1st, 2016
The College Board has announced that 21 2016 Deerfield-Windsor School graduates and seven current seniors have earned AP Scholar designation based on their performances on the 2016 Advanced Placement examinations.
AP courses are college-level courses taught in high school, and students can earn college credit with acceptable scores on the nationally-standardized examinations.
Helena Augenstein and Hadden Kelley achieved National AP Scholar status. Achieving this recognition requires a student to earn scores of 4 or 5 on a 5-point scale on at least eight AP courses.
“We are proud of all 28 students, but are especially pleased for the two National AP Scholars,” Deerfield-Windsor Headmaster Dave Davies said. “Our rigorous curriculum, outstanding teachers, and hard-working, motivated students is a recipe for success. This also contributes to our HOPE Scholarship retention rate among our graduates which is more than double the statewide success rate.”
Deerfield-Windsor offers 12 different AP courses to high-achieving sophomores, juniors and seniors. To be designated as an AP Scholar, a student must post passing scores on at least three AP exams. Scholars with Honor must pass four exams and have a prescribed average score, and Scholars with Distinction pass at least five exams with an even higher average score.
AP Scholars included Mary Rachel Bonner, Maggie Davis, DevanHammack, Holt Jones, Stephanie Mathes, Virginia Moore, Maggie Ricks, Haley Sells, Hannah Takash, Joe Tondera, Mary Warrington, and Caroline Willis.
AP Scholars with Honor included Rohit Doad, Emily Pursel, Brooke Timmerman, and Mattie Veilands.
AP Scholars with Distinction are Helena Augenstein, Paul Brown IV, Lacey Coleman, Lanier Freeman, Emma Goldsmith, Brenton Kelley, Hadden Kelley, Arohi Patel, Mary McCain Potter, Taylor Richter, Charles Stern, and Matthew Williams.
