Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, July 27th, 2016

The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving will host some of the nation’s most innovative programs and inspiring champions at its upcoming summit, Uniting Forces To Support Military Caregivers. The summit will take place Friday, July 29, 2016, at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout this very special day, speakers including military caregivers and leaders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors will discuss challenges facing our military families and explore what it will take to meet their needs.

First Lady Rosalynn Carter will join leaders from the White House; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; Easter Seals Dixon Center; TAPS; and other organizations devoted to military and veterans’ families. The summit’s purpose is to raise awareness and foster discussion about the great need to support not only those who serve, but also the heroes behind our heroes—their families.

Since 2001, America has sent more than 2.5 million men and women to Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 50,000 have been physically wounded, and hundreds of thousands have come home with cognitive injuries such as traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress, which require unimaginable support. Young spouses and aging parents are taking care of America's wounded warriors—in many cases, at the expense of their own health and well-being.
