New Board of Trustees Named for Albany Museum of Art
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016
The Albany Museum of Art is proud to introduce its board of trustees for the fiscal year of 2016 - 2017.
The AMA’s new board president is Karen Snyder, editor of Southwest Georgia Living magazine with 30 years of experience in the publishing industry. She has high expectations for her new position.
“My hope is that we can continue to reach out to people in the region who don't know anything about the museum or what it has to offer. By exhibiting a wider range of art, we can speak to a
wider variety of potential museum members and visitors,” said Snyder. “Art can be a bridge builder between groups that often feel they're on opposite banks, whether the perceived separation is created by socio-economic status, education, race or other factors.”
Museum officers elected to serve for the 2016-2017 term include: R. Ripley Bell, Jr., vice president; Nealy Stapleton, secretary; Jack Davis, treasurer and Kirk Rouse, past president.
The Albany Museum of Art’s board of trustees is comprised of a diverse group of community leaders, selected to engage a wider variety of groups to the museum. Newly elected trustees are Michael Deariso, Becca Lynn, Billy Mathis, Chazz Williams and Stacy Willson. Board members are elected to serve two consecutive three year terms. Those continuing their term of service include: Angie Barber, Mallory Black, Kelley Brim-Hollowell, Bruce Campbell, Shari Carroll, Thomas Chandler, Karen Dunning, Beth Lakhanpal, David Lanier, Michael Mallard, Milan Patel, Alfreda Sheppard, Selena Wingfield and Jim Womack.
Serving on the Board for the Albany Museum of Art is a significant commitment and entails important responsibilities. The AMA’s Trustees are fiduciaries who have the museum’s collections, property, premises and resources in their care as assets in trust for present and future generations. The board’s role is to set policies in consultation with staff for the effective administration of the museum and to monitor adherence to these policies. Implementation of policies and development of internal practices is the role of professional staff.
