WALB Named Georgia's Station of the Year

WALB named Georgia’s 2016 “Station of the Year”, by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. (for all Georgia cities outside Atlanta, including: Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, and Albany).
Albany television station WALB, received five awards, from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, Friday night, in Atlanta. Two awards were 1st place, called “Gabbys”.
Three were Merit Awards, given as runner-up to the Gabby Award.
WALB has been named Georgia’s “Station of the Year”, 7 of the last 10 years.
WALB has received the “Community Service Award”, for 9 of the last 10 years.
WALB News received the “Best Special Program” GABBY, for: “Military Heroes”.
WALB also received Merit Awards for “Best Local Station Produced Commercial (Sims Pest Control) and for “Best Local Station Produced Promotion. (SWGA Sex Slaves)
WALB Vice President & General Manager Jim Wilcox commented: “We’re very pleased that our staff was recognized by other broadcasters, for our work in serving our community. With little local competition in Albany, this is the one time during the year we can compare our work with other dominate news stations across the state. WALB is in the smallest television market in the state, so these awards reflect our level of commitment to our viewers. My personal thanks to each of our dedicated employees.”
The Georgia Association of Broadcasters recognizes excellence in broadcasting statewide, with its annual “GABBY” Awards banquet. The 2016 winners were announced at the G.A.B. awards banquet, at the Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta, June 10nd.
