Staff Report From Albany CEO

Thursday, June 16th, 2016

Mike’s Country Store marks its official grand opening this weekend with an Albany Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Friday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m.  Conveniently located at 3203 Gillionville Road, across from R & S Sports, this is the fourth retail location for the rapidly expanding grocery store chain, whose signature line is, “It’s all about the meat!”  Owner Mike Rogers opened his first Mike’s Country Store on Philema Road 24 years ago. Including the Gillionville store, Rogers has now added three more Southwest Georgia locations in as many years at 2305 Liberty Expressway in Putney and the State Farmers Market, at 1532 First Avenue S.E. in Moultrie.

“This weekend will be really special,” said Rogers.  “Not only will we have incredible deals on every aisle throughout the store, but fresh-off-the-grill samplings of our homemade smoked sausages and 100% Boston Butt filled hot dogs Friday and Saturday.

Also, just for stopping by any of our four locations, you can register to win a brand new gas grill and a Mike’s Gift Box filled with a slab of ribs, Boston Butt, smoked sausage and Mike’s Special Barbeque Sauce, dry rub and seasoning, along with a case of Pepsi.”

Each store features the Prestige Case, where the shopper will find specialty products like customer-cut meats, including steaks, ribs, chicken and chops, along with homemade smoked sausage, bacon, beef jerky and bologna.  Among the family favorites are Mike’s premium hot dogs made only from 100% pure pork Boston Butts.  One look at the huge selection and you’ll know why it’s “All about the meat!”

Rogers also takes pride in offering produce and other products locally grown by area farmers and producers.  “Anytime we can, we buy local,” he said.

Mike’s Country Store’s loyal customers love his “Pick 5” produce and meat specials, with over 100 items from which to choose for one low price.

“If you’re in a hurry for lunch while checking out our grand opening at Gillionville,” Rogers said, “grab some good home-style country cooking from our hot deli bar.  We also have hot and ready-to-serve fresh barbeque chicken, pork and ribs.”

Rogers believes that his commitment to top quality fresh meat and produce, in addition to friendly customer service has made all the difference, when it comes to the competition.

“We’re a totally different style business than they try to run,” Rogers said.  “What you’re seeing now is a turn back toward the smaller stores that are big on personal service.  That’s why we have been so successful; we cater to the people.  That’s what we’re about.”

Most of all, each employee treats each Mike’s Country Store customer just like family.  “We make sure that our customers are always our number one priority,” Rogers continued.  “If you treat people right, they will stay with you.”
