Ken Hodges Named Georgia Bar Association Treasurer
Thursday, June 23rd, 2016
Former Dougherty County District Attorney Ken Hodges of Ken Hodges Law, which has offices in Atlanta and Albany, was installed as treasurer of the 48,000-member State Bar of Georgia this past weekend during the organization’s annual meeting at Amelia Island, Fla.
Hodges is also a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar and serves on its Board of Governors. He chairs the Continuing Lawyer Competency Committee and the Wellness Initiative and serves on the Disciplinary Rules Committee, as well.
“Obviously, I am honored and grateful for the board’s support and am looking forward to working with the board,” Hodges said.
He added he planned to run for the State Bar’s president-elect office in 2017 and president in 2018, relying on the organization’s tradition of the succession of its officers.
“Of course, it’s not absolute, but that’s the way it’s always been done,” Hodges said. “I think the Georgia Bar has had just three presidents from south Georgia; it’s always been pretty much Alanta-centric. I think we need to add some diversity to the mix up there.”
As an experienced trial lawyer, Hodges focuses his law practice on criminal defense and civil litigation, including, but not limited to, personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, commercial litigation and civil rights cases.
He spent 15 years as a prosecutor, including 12 as district attorney of the Dougherty Judicial Circuit. Hodges was honored as Georgia’s District Attorney of the Year in 2002 and is a past recipient of the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service and the Commitment to Equality Award, both presented by the State Bar; and the Eagle Award, presented by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of Georgia. He was the Democratic nominee in the 2010 election for Georgia attorney general.
Hodges also serves as secretary of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta and is co-chair of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day Committee in Albany. He is a past chairman of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia and past president of the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia and the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association.
Hodges is a graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law.
