17th Annual Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibit & Sale

The Albany Area Arts Council proudly presents The 17h Annual Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibition and Sale. Largely sponsored by the Loretta Haley McKnight Foundation, this premiere event is the largest art exhibition and sale in the area. Annually, it gives stage to talented local artists; showcasing an expansive regional collection to the community. This year’s exhibition features 47 artists and 94 works of art.
The exhibit opens to the public Thursday evening June 2, 2016 with a reception at Thronateeska’s Science Museum from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The opening reception will include an awards presentation at 7:30 PM in the Wetherbee Planetarium. In collaboration with Arts Council member organization, Thronateeska Heritage Center, the exhibition will be displayed there throughout its duration. Admission to the art show and sale is free. The Southwest Georgia Regional Art show will be available for viewing June 2 through June 18, 2016 during Thronateeska Science Museum’s public admission hours: Thursday through Saturday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Thronateeska Heritage Center is located at 100 West Roosevelt Avenue in downtown Albany, GA.
The jurors for this year’s exhibition are Laura Lynne Sperry, Todd Bertolae, and Jim Mitchell. Juried categories include painting, photography, and sculpture. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place winners as well as an honorable mention in each of the three categories along with one award for Best in Show. The judges will also select top works for the “Winner’s Circle” exhibit at the Carnegie Library, home of the Albany Area Arts Council. Those works will return to the AAAC and remain on display after the Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibition and Sale closes at Thronateeska.
