NEOS Establishes Scholarship for Technology Majors
Tuesday, May 17th, 2016
NEOS believes there is nothing more important than inspiring a child or young adult, which is why we work with various initiatives to promote Science, technology, engineering and math education. NEOS also works closely with county governments and realizes the significant impact technology has on a county’s ability to thrive and grow. In an effort to both inspire a child and help counties thrive, NEOS has created the Moving Counties Forward Scholarship for rising technology majors.
The Moving Counties Forward scholarship offers a $500 scholarship for selected 2017 College freshman who are majoring in a technology field. Students will be required to submit an essay explaining how technology impacts their county and the scholarship will be awarded to the best essayist.
In this inaugural year, two scholarships will be awarded – one to a student in Sumter County and one to a student in Douglas County. NEOS and Sumter County have been achieving technology success together for several years, which is why they were chosen as a recipient. Douglas County was chosen through a drawing at the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia annual conference in Savannah on April 30, 2016. NEOS plans to expand the region in future years.
Students have until June 24, 2016 to submit their applications. The awardees will be notified in early July and the scholarship will be formally presented to the recipients at the August County Commissioners meeting in their respective county.
