Losing Weight Pays Off for Five Phoebe Family Members
Thursday, May 19th, 2016
Phoebe employees kicked off 2016 with a nationwide weight loss competition. During the months of January, February and March, more than 250 health system employees participated in the competition sponsored by HealthyWage – a company that develops and administers health incentive programs to make weight loss more fun and successful. One Phoebe team, Lee County Weight Loss All Stars, tied for first place with 2 other teams in America, and they received $3,600 for their success.
Participating Phoebe employees formed teams – with other employees, friends and family – which competed with a total of 750 individuals across the nation. On average, the Phoebe participants lost 11 pounds each, and more than 100 participants lost 5% or more of their body weight.
“The HealthyWage competition was an exciting start to the New Year. At Phoebe, we want to empower our employees to take charge of their health and wellness, and this competition served as motivation to lose weight, to embrace wellness, and to be better,” said Michelle Collins, Family Nurse Practitioner and head of Phoebe’s Employee Health Clinic, who spearheaded the competition.
Phoebe is committed to the health of Southwest Georgia, annually providing community wellness education in addition to the care provided at three hospitals and numerous physician practices and specialty clinics. And, ultimately this commitment begins with members of the Phoebe Family who provide this care for our communities.
Will Peterson, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources added: “We applaud the members of the Lee County Weight Loss All Stars in this achievement and not only celebrate their success but the success of over 200 Phoebe Family members who participated in this nationwide challenge and lost a combined total of more than 3,000 pounds. Their success proves that results can be realized through dedication, commitment and a little motivation!”
