The Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital medical staff made their annual community donation in celebration of National Doctor’s Day on March 30. Edward Vance, M.D., president of medical staff at PPMH, presented Flint River Habitat for Humanity and the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia each with a $2,500 gift.

“The medical staff at Phoebe is proud to make these donations to two local organizations that do so much for our community, said Dr. Vance. “We feel the best way we can be honored as physicians is to give back to the community.”

According to Jennifer Vanston, executive director of Flint River Habitat for Humanity, the donation will go towards the closing on one of their current home ownership projects. “This kind of support is what allows us to continue our mission of providing safe and affordable housing to families in our community,” stated Vanston.

Jennifer Johnston, CFO/COO with the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, accepted the donation on the coalition’s behalf. She said the Cancer Coalition is very grateful to the doctors for the donation. “This money will be used to further advance our programs, including prevention, screening and patient assistance,” continued Johnston.

The medical staff at PPMH made their first donation in 2008 to Girls, Inc. Each year the donation is made in honor of the late Dr. Hasan Rizvi, who was president of the medical staff in 2008, and originally championed the idea of the medical staff giving back to the community.
