County Plans to Revisit Consolidation

When consolidation of the Dougherty County and Albany city governments was considered some 10 years ago, the word itself became symbolic of misinformation passed along by the community’s self-serving and its uninformed.
In large pockets of the community, consolidation was declared an attempt to strengthen the growing stronghold black politicians held on local government, while in others it was declared an attempt by whites to usurp blacks’ political strength.
