Albany State University President Announces New Senior Leadership Appointment

Albany State University President Arthur Dunning has named Wendy Wilson as the Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Communications and University Relations. Wilson started her new position in January.
Wilson’s primary responsibilities include coordinating strategic communications and building relationships with stakeholder groups internally and externally.
 
“Wendy Wilson has a wealth of experience in higher education at Albany State University and Darton State College,” Dunning said. “As we move forward, her leadership skills in public relations, marketing and public affairs will strengthen our relationships with internal and external stakeholders in local, national and international audiences.”
 
Prior to being named to her new position, Wilson served as Special Assistant to the President at Darton State College. At Darton, her portfolio included media spokesperson for the college, strategic task force planning and Title IX coordinator.

Communicating the influence and impact of this great institution is an honor,” Wilson said.
 
In previous positions held at Albany State University, Wilson served as interim director of the Albany State University Office of University Communications and as director of Alumni Affairs.

Wilson, who is active in the community, serves as a board member for United Way of Southwest Georgia, Communities in Schools, Georgia Partnership in Excellence and the Albany Civil Rights Museum. She has also served on the Girls Inc. of Albany board of directors.
 
A native of Detroit, Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Bluefield College and a master’s degree in human resource management from Central Michigan University. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in higher education at Columbus State University.
