Historic Preservation Commission Helps Albany Keep its Character

In the wake of the recent announcement that the downtown Albany Theater, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, may soon be demolished, Albany Dougherty Historic Preservation Commission member Rozanne Braswell shared a brief overview of that commission’s many duties with members of the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County.
In her presentation, which was given at the Kiwanis Club’s regular meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Albany, Braswell, who is a senior planner with the Albany Dougherty Planning Department and the only staff member on the HPC, first explained that the commission, which was founded in 1996, was an unpaid board comprising eight citizens appointed by both the Albany City and Dougherty County Commissions.
