AMA’s Writing Competition for College Students Award Celebration Today
Thursday, November 19th, 2015
The Albany Museum of Art’s first annual A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words writing competition will have its winner announcement and reading celebration on November 19, 2015 at 7 PM.
This competition was open to students currently enrolled at Darton State College, Albany State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Valdosta State University, Andrew College, and Albany Technical College. There were a total of 52 submissions.
This competition was sponsored by Steve and Bronwyn Hinton, life trustees of the AMA. “I think it’s important to create a dialogue about visual art,” said Steve Hinton. “It can inspire other forms of art and then that helps others see things about the pieces that they may not have before.”
Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. They are awarded as follows: 1st place: $250.00, 2nd place: $150.00 and 3rd place: $100.000. Along with the cash prize winners, four honorable mentions will be selected. All winners including the honorable mentions will also be published in a special A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words Museum publication that will be available at the celebration. “We are so pleased with how this competition turned out since this is the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Paula Williams, Executive Director of the AMA.
“Strengthening the relationship between the museum and the area colleges is something we always want to work on so this was a great opportunity for this.”
